This may be old news to some of my readers, but today I want to share one of my very favorite home projects that I have ever done! I can’t believe it has been almost 5 years since I was hugely pregnant and balancing on a broken step stool to paint this big top ceiling!
Surprisingly enough, I have a bit of a commitment phobia when it comes to home decor. It took me almost 9 months of pregnancy to commit to a nursery theme for my sweet girl! After MUCH contemplation I decided on a carnival theme, and it absolutely fit everything about her!
Her nursery was featured on Project Nursery, Today’s Parent, and numerous international blogs. It’s so funny to think back on those memories of my arm going numb from painting the ceiling and then to think about where our work ended up being seen! I remember feeling like it was such a big undertaking, and I was nervous about how it would turn out. Being nervous or scared to make changes our homes can hold us back from some pretty amazing projects. I like to think about paint like I think of hair color. It can always be changed, and can always be fixed! You never know what you might love!
I happened upon a few very low quality before pictures that I thought would be fun to share! Originally this room was sage green and dark.
The great thing is that the ceiling ended up being a bit of an optical illusion so you really don’t notice any imperfections. Also, let me just give a little shout out to Frog Tape. It makes perfect lines with no bleeding! I live by this tape!!
My cute hubby measured and taped every stripe and me and my mom hand painted them (with brushes!) I also free-handed all of the scallops. It was a labor of love for our sweet baby! I love how everything looked finished.
There are many sweet little details that are so meaningful to us in this room. A key that hung from one of our centerpieces at our wedding, a small Alice in Wonderland quilt made by my aunt, the crib that I slept in as a baby (it even has my teeth marks on the bars!!), and hand-made bumper pads and bedding by my sweet grandma. Many of the little details were purchased in second-hand stores while on shopping dates with my mama.
We ended up selling our cute ivy covered home less than a year after these photos were taken, but I will always treasure the time spent in this nursery with our darling girl!
